Luxembourg Earth Impact Fund (LEIF)

Advancing Sustainable Investment for Global Change

The Luxembourg Earth Impact Fund

The Luxembourg Earth Impact Fund (LEIF) is an umbrella fund designed for a positive impact on our planet. Our mission is to be a catalyst for sustainable development, aspiring for investments that benefit the planet and people’s lives. The fund - sponsored by the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance in partnership with Schroders - aims to mobilize private and institutional investments by using blended finance to support the transition towards a climate-neutral and resilient global economy.

Our purpose

The LEIF is a platform to multiply and to direct private capital flows towards impact through blended finance. The first sub-fund of the LEIF responds to the urgent need for climate action and sustainable growth, especially in emerging markets. The Luxembourg Government is determined to contribute positively to impact investments and is using its capital to de-risk private capital in the LEIF.

Our approach

The LEIF’s first sub-fund is the Green Earth Impact Fund (GEIF). This fund focuses on investments that support climate mitigation, climate adaptation, and the conservation of water and biodiversity. Recognizing the importance of additionally, the fund aims to address the financing gap for nature-based solutions, especially in emerging markets. The GEIF seeks to foster green recovery by focusing on markets that are either underserved or have been negatively impacted, thereby creating opportunities for sustainable progress.

Furthermore, the GEIF offers a framework for investors looking for risk mitigation, a diversified portfolio of fund investments, and a comprehensive investment selection and impact assessment. This approach leverages on Blue Orchard’s expertise and is designed to balance environmental impact with prudent investment practices.

Partnerships

The LEIF is a strategic partnership between the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance, Schroders, a global asset manager, and BlueOrchard, the investment manager.

This collaboration bridges the unique strengths of a public institution providing risk-bearing capital (Luxembourg Ministry of Finance), a leading asset management firm ensuring management company services (Schroder Investment Management (Europe) S.A.), and an impact investment expert (BlueOrchard). This synergy enables us to harness expertise and resources, and allows us to amplify and generate meaningful impact.

Key cornerstone investors include the Ministry of Finance of Luxembourg and Schroders.
